周其林,有机化学家,中国科学院院士,南开大学化学学院教授、博士生导师。
1982年,周其林从兰州大学化学系毕业并考取中国科学院上海有机化学研究所研究生,并先后获得硕士、博士学位;1987年博士毕业后先后在华东理工大学、德国马克斯·普朗克研究所、瑞士巴塞尔大学和美国Trinity大学从事博士后研究;1996年回国后进入华东理工大学精细化工研究所工作,担任教授、博士生导师;1997年获得国家杰出青年科学基金资助;1999年被教育部聘为特聘教授,并转入南开大学工作;2004年至2013年担任南开大学元素有机化学研究所所长以及元素有机化学国家重点实验室主任;2009年当选为中国科学院院士;2012年获得首届中国化学会手性化学奖;2013年担任南开大学化学学院院长;2018年获得第三届未来科学大奖物质科学奖;2019年获得国家自然科学奖一等奖。
周其林院士主要从事不对称催化合成方面的研究。涉及手性催化剂的结构设计、催化剂合成、相应的各种不对称合成反应研究和应用这些手性催化剂合成手性药物分子等。发展了一类全新的手性螺环配体,并以该类配体为基础设计合成了一系列新型手性螺环催化剂。这些催化剂在不对称催化氢化、碳-碳键和碳-杂原子键形成等一系列不对称合成反应中都表现出优秀的催化活性和对映选择性。研究成果已经在手性药物等合成中获得应用。
Brief Introduction of Professor Qi-Lin Zhou
Zhou Qilin is a distinguished organic chemist, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the College of Chemistry, Nankai University. He graduated from the Department of Chemistry at Lanzhou University in 1982 and pursued graduate studies at the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he earned both his master’s and doctoral degrees. After completing his PhD in 1987, he conducted postdoctoral research at East China University of Science and Technology, the Max Planck Institute in Germany, the University of Basel in Switzerland, and Trinity University in the United States. Upon his return to China in 1996, he joined the Institute of Fine Chemicals at East China University of Science and Technology as a professor and doctoral supervisor. In 1997, he received the National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund; two years later, he was appointed a distinguished professor by the Ministry of Education and subsequently moved to Nankai University. Between 2004 and 2013, he served as Director of both the Institute of Elemental Organic Chemistry and the State Key Laboratory of Elemental Organic Chemistry at Nankai University. His accolades include election to the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009, the inaugural Chinese Chemical Society Chiral Chemistry Award in 2012, the Third Future Science Award in Material Science in 2018, and the first prize in China's State Natural Science Award in 2019.
Prof Zhou’s research centers on asymmetric catalysis, with a focus on the design and synthesis of chiral catalysts. His work involves developing novel chiral spiro ligands, which have served as the basis for a series of innovative chiral spiro catalysts. These catalysts exhibit excellent reactivity and enantioselectivity in asymmetric hydrogenation as well as in the formation of carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom bonds. His contributions have been successfully applied to the synthesis of chiral pharmaceutical compounds.
